RIM to Fire Up to 6,000 Employees to Save $1 Billion

In an effort to save a much needed billion dollars, RIM is expected to cut 6,000 jobs today.

Times are hard, and for the people at Research in Motion, the story is no different.  But times are about to get just a bit tougher, as unfortunately RIM is expected to cut at least 2,000-6,000 jobs in an effort to save about $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year.

RIM company watcher Martin Chmiel took to Twitter to mention that the manufacturing team was hit the hardest, with hundreds of people departing in the past 24 hours.
