Microsoft Requests Removal of Leaked XBox 720 Documents

It seems the Xbox 720 rumors are true

Last weekend a 56-page document leaked solid information about Microsoft's successor to the Xbox 360, popularly known as the Xbox 720.  While the legitimacy of the document is still in question, Microsoft's law firm contacted several sources that leaked the info on the document asking them to remove it ASAP.

Scribd opened the leak on the upcoming Xbox 720 and reportedly was asked by Covington & Burling LLP to remove any documents or information.  A site in the Czech Republic and Dropbox were also contacted by Internet investigator Alan Radford to remove any material on the Xbox 720.

There's even an ad for it in the stadium shown during the movie "Real Steel", although most people probably made nothing of it.

The text of the complaint sent to the Czech site ihned.cz reads: "Microsoft has received information that the domain listed above, which appears to be on servers under your control, is offering unlicensed copies of, or is engaged in other unauthorized activities relating to copyrighted works published by Microsoft. 1. Identification of copyrighted works: Copyrighted work(s): IEB Roadmap Copyright owner: ? Microsoft Corporation 2. Copyright infringing material or activity found at the following location(s):"

While most people probably considered the leak to be a hoax of sorts, the fact that Microsoft has taken legal action to remove any such information on the upcoming next-gen console might actually say otherwise about what was said on the 56-page document.

That said document, for those just catching up now, describes the Xbox 720 as offering four to six times more visual horsepower, backwards-compatibility, an updated version of Kinect, (dubbed Kinect 2.0) adding support for up to four players and an improved voice recognition feature.  It'll also include blu-ray support, USB 3.0, HDMI and built-in WiFi, along with the rumored Fortaleza AR glasses.  All for just $299 late next year.
